Camp Wight Sustainability Statement – we outline the business practices and how we run our Isle of Wight Campsite and Glamping Experiences
By the nature of our business, we place great emphasis on the value of the natural environment. We are committed to sustainable business principles. This is reflected in our approach to social responsibility and our investment in working with local education providers, charities, partners and communities. The result of this work is to raise environmental awareness and minimise any negative impact.
Responsible Approach to Business
Working responsibly is part of the fabric of our business. Using accredited frameworks allows for annual independent auditing and assessment holding our working practices to account.
Making sure our practices have a regenerative impact on the environment, communities, customers, employees and partners is integral to our achievement now and in the years to come.
We are passionate about education and work hand in hand with local education providers, communities, environmental organisations and charities to raise awareness and encourage eco engagement with the next generation.
Our Customers
Our team are working towards understanding our customers environmental impact and are working to mitigate it completely.
Camp Wight promotes regenerative tourism by empowering guests to own their impact, reduce it, offset where necessary and give them options to make sustainable choices whilst on holiday with us.
We work with strategic partners where we are committed to reducing customer travel. This might be to and from our site, or whilst on holiday with us.
The business has clean energy targets as well as rolling out EV charging on our site.
Our Partners
We are committed to supporting partners to promote biodiversity and lessen the overall impact of our holidays.
Through a continual dialog with our partners we can successfully build strong relationships and trust. This is not limited to our own working practices but improves and influences theirs, too.
We aim to educate partners in environmental practices and principles. The team helps and encourage them to transfer these into their own operations.
Our Suppliers
We commit to forging relationships with suppliers who demonstrate sound environmental practices.
Camp Wight audit our suppliers to ensure our materials and products are responsibly sourced, this results in them not supporting human trafficking or slavery of any kind.
We ensure our materials and products do not have a negative impact on the planet. Either they have had a previous life or will have one after we have finished using them.
We will support a circular economy approach for our products.
Assessing our Impact
Camp Wight has a Net-Zero strategy and we aim to bring all our stakeholders with us.
We proudly support, as well as affiliate to a number of environmental accreditations. This includes the Green Tourism award scheme. We want to be held accountable for our actions.
It is our aim to not only reduce our business to Net-Zero but we are confident the business is carbon positive.
The Forestry Commission outlines the carbon sequestration delivered by woodland here.
“As an example, a native broadleaf project might expect to capture around 500 tonnes of carbon per hectare over 100 years.”

Camp Wight has 10 Hectares of native, broadleaf woodland. Using the above Forestry Commission figures, each of our hectares of woodland captures approximately 5 tonnes of carbon per year. As a result, our site captures 50 tonnes of carbon every year. We have calculated our carbon footprint, which is approximately 3 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Our strategy to ensure we maintain and grow our on-site carbon sequestration is to pro-actively manage our woodland for regeneration, by coppicing hazel and willow on site and working towards an uneven age structure across the site, with a partially open canopy throughout.
Our Green Credentials
Our staff, partners customers and suppliers are all aware of our commitment to continually improving our impact on the planet from our operations.
The business processes allow independent auditing and assessment to take place annually and at key intervals.
Evaluation
We will continuously evaluate operations, practices and suppliers to ensure we are working ethically, fairly and sustainably.
Our team encourages and support all our stakeholders to share innovative ideas and improvements.
We have an open door for feedback.
Review
This policy is reviewed annually or after any significant changes to evaluate its continued relevance and to monitor our progress.
